01 · Safari extension
Set up MonoMoji in Safari
The iPhone app includes a Safari extension. Enable it once, then MonoMoji can show your saved words as shapes on the pages you read.
- 1. Open Safari extension settingsOn current iOS versions, open Settings, then Apps, Safari, Extensions, and MonoMoji. On older iOS versions, Safari may appear directly in Settings.
- 2. Turn on Allow ExtensionUnder Permissions, allow access to Other Websites so MonoMoji can work on the pages you choose to read.
- 3. Return to Safari and reload the pageOpen MonoMoji from Safari's page menu to see Page Words, Words, recommendations, and reading-data controls.
02 · Words
Saved words and recommendations
Reading works without an account using the starting words THE and AND. Sign in or create an account to save more words and use the same saved words across supported MonoMoji surfaces.
In the iPhone app, open Words to preview, add, or remove words. Recommendations are based on words that appeared frequently on pages you previously read in Safari on this device. The page currently open is not used for its own recommendations.
If recommendations have little reading evidence, read a few normal text pages in Safari and return later. Dismissing a word hides it from recommendations; the Dismissed control in Words lets you review those choices.
03 · Data and account
Clear only what you intend to clear
Clear Safari reading data
In Safari, open MonoMoji, select Page Words, scroll to Reading Data, and choose Clear reading data. This removes the local recommendation profile from this device. It does not remove your word library or account.
Clear your word library
In the iPhone app, open Settings, then Data, and choose Clear word library. This removes saved and dismissed words on signed-in devices while keeping the account.
Delete your account
In the iPhone app, open Settings, then Data, and choose Delete account. After confirmation, the account and its saved data are permanently removed. Local Safari reading data is separate and must be cleared in the extension.
04 · Troubleshooting
Common fixes
The Safari extension is not visible
Confirm that Allow Extension is on, allow access to Other Websites, then close the page menu and reload the page.
Words are not changing on a page
Check that the site is not excluded and that the words are in your saved words, then reload the page. Text inside images, PDFs, editable fields, and some embedded frames is not converted.
Page Words says the page is unavailable
Use the refresh action and wait for the page to finish loading. Safari settings pages and other protected browser surfaces do not expose page words to extensions.
Sign-in or account creation is not completing
Check the verification email and spam folder. If the account already exists, use Send password reset email from the sign-in screen. Contact us if the problem continues.
