Privacy Policy

1. The short version

MonoMoji analyzes page text on your device to draw word shapes. It does not upload page text, form contents or a general history of the pages you visit, and it contains no advertising, tracking, analytics or telemetry SDKs.

If you create an account, MonoMoji stores the account information and product data needed to sync your experience: your email address, saved and removed library words, custom mappings, display settings and Practice best times. In the iOS app, a web favorite is synced only when you explicitly save it; the stored favorite contains its title and URL. MonoMoji does not turn ordinary browsing into a synced history.

2. Reading and page processing

The Chrome extension, Safari extension and iOS in-app web reader inspect visible page text locally so they can replace your chosen words with shapes.

• Page text, form fields, keystrokes and editable content are not uploaded to MonoMoji.
• The browser extension's word-frequency reading profile stays in local browser storage. It contains word counts only, not page text, URLs or page titles, and is never sent to MonoMoji. It is separate from your account and remains after sign out or account deletion. Use Clear reading data in the extension to clear it.
• The iOS in-app web reader does not create or sync a history of pages you open. Like any browser, it connects to the website you choose to visit, and that website processes the request under its own privacy practices.
• The iOS app stores downloaded book text, reading positions and removed-book choices locally on the device. These items are not synced to your account.

The extensions require website access because finding words in the page is the feature they provide. That permission is not used to send page contents to MonoMoji.

3. Account and synced data

Creating an account is optional. The iOS app and Chrome extension offer Sign in with Apple, Google Sign-In, and email and password. The Safari extension uses the account session from the iOS app. When you create or use an account, we process:

• Email address and account identifier, for authentication, confirmation, password reset and account support.
• Word-library data, including saved words, removed-word records and custom mappings, so changes remain consistent across signed-in devices.
• Display settings, so supported reading preferences follow your account.
• Practice best times, so your saved progress is available on other signed-in devices.
• Favorites created in the iOS web reader, including the page title and URL, so the favorites list can sync. Only pages you explicitly save are stored; other visited pages are not added.

Account data is sent over HTTPS and stored with the account by our service provider, Supabase. If you use Google Sign-In or Sign in with Apple, that identity provider processes the sign-in under its own privacy terms. MonoMoji receives the account identifier and identity information needed to establish the session. We do not sell this data, use it for advertising, or combine it with third-party data for tracking.

4. Other network features in the iOS app

Some iOS features work without an account and therefore make network requests even while you are signed out:

• A book search sends the search text to Gutendex, a third-party Project Gutenberg index. MonoMoji does not receive or retain that search.
• Choosing a Project Gutenberg book sends its Gutenberg URL tomonomoji.com, which retrieves and prepares the book for the reader. The request and book text are not stored by that endpoint; the downloaded copy is cached on your device.
• Opening a page in the in-app web reader connects directly to that website. MonoMoji does not upload the page text or record the visit, except when you explicitly save the page as a synced favorite.

5. Website forms and service providers

If you use a MonoMoji website form, we process only the information you choose to submit. A contact request may include your name, email address, category and message and is delivered through our email provider. Newsletter or whitepaper requests store the email address you submit. You may ask us to remove this information by contacting us.

Supabase provides account authentication and database hosting. Our email provider delivers account and contact emails. Gutendex and Project Gutenberg service book search and download requests. These providers process data only as necessary to provide their respective services and under their own terms.

6. Retention, deletion and your choices

We retain account-linked data while your account exists. You can clear your word library separately. Deleting your account from the iOS app or monomoji.com removes the authentication account and the account rows for your word library, custom mappings, settings, favorites and Practice bests.

Local browser reading data, downloaded books and reading positions are stored on the device and can be removed through the relevant product controls or by removing the app or extension. They are not uploaded during account deletion.

You can request access, a machine-readable export, correction or deletion by emailing contact@monomoji.com.

7. What we do not collect and changes to this policy

MonoMoji does not collect page contents, form input, a general browsing history, location, contacts, photos, device advertising identifiers or data for advertising. The current iOS app and extensions contain no advertising, tracking, analytics or telemetry SDKs.

If a future version changes these practices, we will update this policy and the relevant App Store or extension-store disclosures before release.
