Privacy Policy

1. The short version

Visible page text is analyzed locally on the user's device. Page text, URLs, domains, page titles, and word-frequency profiles are never transmitted to MonoMoji servers.

The only personal data we ever hold is (a) your account email, if you choose to create an account, and (b) the words you explicitly save to your library while signed in. This version of the extension contains no analytics or telemetry of any kind.

2. Local processing of page text

To replace your chosen words with shapes and to show page statistics and recommendations, the extension reads the visible text of pages you browse on your device:

• Analysis happens in the page and in the extension's background worker. Results are stored only in your browser's local storage as a word-frequency profile keyed by numeric dictionary IDs.
• This profile never leaves your device: it is not synced, not uploaded, and not shared. Signing out or deleting your account does not upload or delete it — it was never on a server.
• You are in control: you can pause counting, exclude specific sites (effective immediately, including open tabs), or delete the local reading profile at any time from the side panel. Incognito windows, browser-internal pages, embedded frames, form fields and editable areas are never analyzed. No page URLs, domains or titles are stored — which is also why past counts cannot be removed per site: no site information exists to filter by.

3. Data we collect (only with an account)

Creating an account is optional. Without one, the extension works with two built-in default words and sends no network requests at all.

If you sign up or sign in, we process:

• Account email address — via Google Sign-In or email+password — to identify your account and enable password reset.
• Saved library words — the words you explicitly add to your library. We treat your word list as personal data, because over time it can reflect your interests:
  • Transport security: all traffic to MonoMoji servers uses HTTPS.
  • Access control: library rows are protected by per-user, row-level access rules; only your authenticated session can read your words.
  • No word content in logs: server request bodies of the reading pipeline are never logged, and error logging across the API is redacted to messages only — your words do not appear in server logs.
  • Deletion: deleting your account (monomoji.com → Account) immediately removes your library, custom mappings and all other account rows from the production database, then deletes the account itself. Our current hosting plan keeps no automated database backups, so deletion is immediate and permanent — no residual server-side copies remain. If we ever enable backups, we will update this policy with the verified retention window before doing so.
  • Export: your full library is always visible (and copyable) in the extension side panel and at monomoji.com/library. For a machine-readable export, email us and we will provide one within 30 days.
  • Retention: we keep your email and library only while your account exists. There is no secondary use — no advertising, no sale, no profiling, no third-party sharing beyond our hosting provider (Supabase), which processes data on our behalf.

4. What we do not collect

We do not collect browsing history, URLs, domains, page titles, page content, reading statistics, keystrokes, location, device identifiers, or advertising identifiers. This version of the extension contains no analytics or telemetry: there are no tracking calls of any kind in the extension, and the only network requests it can make are sign-in and explicit library sync to monomoji.com (enforced by the extension's host permissions).

5. Changes and contact
